Kathy Barwick

Kathy Barwick, a Sacramento native, has played bluegrass music since 1977, when she switched from folk guitar to bluegrass banjo, and eventually to dobro and back to flatpicked guitar. The founder of The All Girl Boys, Kathy has also performed with Bill Grant and Delia Bell, the Avocado Brothers, and the Bluegrass Philharmonic. Kathy now performs regularly with several groups, including dobro with Mountain Laurel, a bluegrass band from the Grass Valley area, dobro with Poetic Justis, a folk/blues duo, guitar, dobro and banjo with Shades of Blue, another bluegrass band, and guitar and banjo with Nine-8ths Irish, a traditional Irish quartet. Kathy taught music (banjo, dobro, and guitar) full-time from 1979 through 1984 and has taught intermittently since. Kathy has taught guitar at the California Coast Music Camp and the American River Acoustic Music Camp, and flat picking & dobro at the American River Acoustic Music Camp the three previous years, and twice at the California Bluegrass Music Associations annual music camp. Kathy was also invited to teach guitar at the prestigious Steve Kaufman Acoustic Kamp in Maryville Tennessee. An accomplished flatpicker, she contributes instructional articles regularly to “Flatpicking Guitar Magazine.”
